  1. Händelser men inte litteratur

    Jag fann denna så omhuldade bok väldigt tråkig. Den saknar liv. Texten ägnas åt att beskriva i otroligt minutiös detalj hur omgivningar ser ut (vilket kan tyckas relevant när det handlar om en blind flicka) och vad människorna gör. Ingenting om vad karaktärerna tänker eller känner. Samtidigt som det händer väldigt mycket negativa saker. Jag orkade inte läsa längre än till 120 sidor. Om man inte kan lära känna karaktärerna på den tiden så är det nog lönlöst att fortsätta.

    En fantastiskt berättelse som för mig handlar om något vackert och mycket positivt samtidigt som de mest hårresande hemskheter pågår runt omkring. Språket är underbart bra och historien flyter fram på ett tilltalande sätt.
    En av de bästa böckerna jag läst på mycket länge.

    Ordet superfantastisk lånar sig väl som beskrivning av denna bok. Sublim funkar också. Läs och njut. Fem stjärnor, inget snack.

    En berättelse, ett epos som griper tag från början med sitt poetiska språk.
    Den har lika många vinklar, vrår, bottnar och hemliga rum som de intrikata askarna som är en viktig del av handlingen. Man följer två huvudpersoner; franska Marie-Laure, blind i medfödd grå starr som barn, och tyska Werner, en föräldralös pojke med stor nyfikenhet på hur allting fungerar. Man följer dem parallellt i vartannat kapitel från 30-talets början fram till nutid och framförallt under andra världskriget. ... Läs hela recensionen

    En helt underbar berättelse. Jag älskar Doerrs språk. Hans karaktärer blir levande och miljöerna så verkliga att man ser allt helt klart framför sig.
    Det är inte möjligt att denna storslagna berättelse inte blir film.
    Frågan är om det går att göra boken rättvisa som spelfilm.

Övrig information

Anthony Doerr is the author of four books, The Shell Collector, About Grace, Four Seasons in Rome and Memory Wall. Doerr's short fiction has won three O. Henry Prizes and has been anthologized in The Best American Short Stories, The Anchor Book of New American Short Stories, and The Scribner Anthology of Contemporary Fiction. He has won the Rome Prize, and shared the New York Public Library's Young Lions Fiction Award with Jonathan Safran Foer. In 2007 Granta placed Doerr on its list of the "21 Best Young American novelists." Doerr lives in Boise, Idaho, with his wife and two sons.
