Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird. This is a lawyer's advice to his children as he defends the real mockingbird of the story - a black man charged with raping a white girl in the 1930s.

Fantastisk bok: både mysig och skrämmande såväl som komisk och tragisk på samma gång. Det finns mycket att lära av To Kill A Mockingbird, och jag rekommenderar alla att läsa den.

Sebastian Lindqvist (Stockholm), 16 april 2013

En klassiker alla bokälskare bör läsa. Men den har inte åldrats lika bra som flera böcker från samma tidsålder. Men den borde vara obligatorisk läsning i skolan, om inte bara för sin politiska skildring av den amerikanska södern.

Recensioner i media

"Someone rare has written this very fine novel, a writer with the liveliest sense of life and the warmest, most authentic humour. A touching book; and so funny, so likeable" Truman Capote 20031022 "There is humour as well as tragedy in this book, besides its faint note of hope for human nature; and it is delightfully written in the now familiar Southern tradition" Sunday Times 20031022 "Her book is lifted...into the rare company of those that linger in the memory..." Bookman 20031022 "No one ever forgets this book" Independent

Övrig information

This has been voted the book adults should read before they die. The survey of librarians to mark World Book Day 2006 came out in favour of The Bible in second place and The Lord of the Rings trilogy in third place. The timeless classic of growing up and the human dignity that unites us all. The unforgettable novel of a childhood in a sleepy Southern town and the crisis of conscience that rocked it, To Kill a Mockingbird became both an instant bestseller and a critical success when it was first published in 1960. It went on to win the Pulitzer prize in 1961 and was later made into an Academy Award winning film, also a classic. Compassion, dramatic, and deeply moving, To Kill a Mockingbird takes readers to the roots of human behavior¿to innocence and experience, kindness and cruelty, love and hatred, humor and pathos. Now with over 15 million copies in print and translated into ten languages, this regional story by a young Alabama woman claims universal appeal. Harper Lee always considered her book to be a simple love story. Today it is regarded as a masterpiece of American literature.
