Celtic Politics offers a model of politics that facilitates the analysis of the Celtic fringe in the political life of Great Britain and Ireland. It is a much-needed corrective to the standard academic approach to British, Scottish, Welsh, and Irish politics and history. This book will help readers conceptualize and understand the Scots, Irish, and Welsh, as well as their interconnected political contexts and systems. Politics in twenty-first century Britain and Ireland have recently seen a rise in ethno-nationalism. This is due to the institutional changes, transformations of political cultures, and geo-political alterations that took place in the latter decades of the twentieth century, widely impacting the status of Celtic nations. Celtic Politics provides a concise explanation of the political development of these nations and illuminates the overall historical significance of this region.

Recensioner i media

In Celtic Politics, Kurt Jefferson fills in an important gap in academic treatments of politics in what some have called, "the Celtic fringe."...Those lucky enough to teach more specialized courses (e.g., British Politics, Regional Politics, etc.) should place this book on their review lists....All readers will enjoy the vignettes that Jefferson places throughout the chapters, which provide details about fascinating subjects and will spur contemplation of (and class discussions about) the political importance of key historical and cultural dynamics and events. * British Politics Group Newsletter * Jefferson does justice to the separate histories of each nation while providing a coherent theme for students. As a teaching tool for North American students this is an excellent and detailed introduction to the topic of Celtic politics, with much to interest the general reader as well. * North American Journal of Welsh Studies *
