As a Pre-Grammar, this book is intended as a prelude leading to New Testament (NT) Greek studies. (1) It focuses on why the pursuit of Greek as a spiritual discipline can be an exciting adventure that forever changes the way one reads the Bible; a...
Twila Higginbottom, Arkansas: There are many books written today about how to get the most out of Bible reading, and I have enjoyed many of them. Gary Collier's The Art of Biblical Conversation is my favorite. This little book inspires you, the reader, to 'rise up' and take your place in an engaged conversation that will challenge you and bring out your best as a child of God. It pulls back the cover to show us what is going on with our Biblical authors so that you will want to join them in this sacred Biblical conversation. It also provides 'a way' (not a method or procedure) to get the most out of your relationship with God and the sacred Word he has given us. This is a resource book that will help you discern the will of the Lord as it is revealed in our Bible then see better how to live it out in our day. I highly recommend this book.
Michael Wilkinson, M.D., F.A.C.P., Palestine, TX.: The Art of Biblical Conversation by Gary D. Collier encourages us to deeply experience our scriptures, and not just read them. In a comprehensive yet readily grasped manner, Collier explains how the authors of our scriptures were in a continual conversation with one another, even those who preceded them by centuries, and that this was done to better comprehend and converse with God. He then goes on to further explain a method that allows each of us to learn the discipline of conversing with Biblical authors, and while doing so to achieve a deeper level of intimacy with God. I highly recommend this book.
Richard Davies, Ph.D., Macon, GA: Collier points out that we use the phrase Bible study to cover many activities, and many of these activities don't increase our knowledge and understanding of the Bible at all. This book introduces an approach that does increase our knowledge and understanding and that is compatible with group discussion, individual study, and many other approaches to knowing the Bible. Believe me, it's worth a try.
Ph.D. in biblical studies from Graduate Theological Foundation in association with Oxford University. Collier is an American New Testament scholar focusing on the topics scripture and canon, midrash, and intertextuality of the New Testament. Related to these interests, he has proposed a "conversational model" for understanding biblical interrelationships.
