Färfattaren vill undertsryka att "Västvärldens värderingar" inte bara härrör från de gamla gerkerna, demokratin i Aten, slaget vid Maraton etc. utan att det gar varit ett ständigt pågående utbyte av kunskap ändsa sedan de gamla sumererna och Baylonien. Boken visar på ett övertygande sätt hur teknik och kultur har utvecklats och kopierats av de olika s.k. kulturena genom historien.
